ABOUT OUR CATTERY
Mindeelyn Siberians is a small Canadian cattery located in the Durham area of Ontario. We are located 45 minutes east of downtown Toronto and within driving distance of Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec and, of course, the Toronto International Airport. We are approximately two hours from the American border.
We are very proud to be able to say that Mindeelyn Siberians is the longest continually–running cattery of hypoallergenic Siberian cats in Eastern Canada.
We love our kittens very much. They are brought up as part of our family and we strive to give them the best start in life that is possible. Our kittens grow up along with dogs, kids and the noise and activity of family life.
Our cats and kittens are registered with TICA (The International Cat Association); the world’s largest genetic registry of pedigree cats. All kittens go to their forever homes with free one-month pet insurance, have passed a vigorous vet check, are age-appropriately vaccinated, de-wormed, well socialized, healthy, fully weaned and litter box trained.
To ensure that our kittens and cats remain in the best of health, in addition to the highest quality food and plenty of love and attention, all our cats receive regular veterinary check-ups and are vaccinated in accordance with the guidelines of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Our cattery is FIV, leukemia and ringworm free. All kittens are bred from the healthiest, most hypoallergenic lines with no known FeLV, FIV, PKD or HCM. All our Siberians come with a detailed sales contract, a two-year health guarantee and 23 pages of written instructions/suggestions on kitten care.
House cats share 95.6% of their genetic makeup with tigers. They also share some of the same behaviour habits such as purring, prey stalking, pouncing, scent and urine marking.
ABOUT THE SIBERIAN CAT
The Siberian is a truly magnificent creature; large, strong, agile with outstanding and powerful muscles. The back is long and very slightly curved but appears horizontal in motion. The hind legs of the Siberian are slightly longer than the front legs with large and powerful rounded paws. The overall appearance is a cat of great strength and size with an excellent physical tone. The facial expression of the Siberian is one of circles and roundness rather than angular as are some of the other breeds.
But Siberians are so much more. They are intelligent, loyal, playful, inquisitive, affectionate, excellent with children, a healthy breed – and last but not least – hypoallergenic.
There are two types of Siberians. One is the colour point or Neva Masquerade Siberian. They are born with blue eyes which remain blue throughout their lifetime. The main part of their body is white/beige and their extremities (paws, nose and tail) turn a darker colour as they age. Then there is the traditional Siberian. These kittens are born with blue eyes which eventually turn either green or amber. They come in a rainbow or colours and patterns.
How to get a puppy to sleep
Our females take motherhood very seriously. Whether it is their own kitten or one belonging to another cat, or even a puppy, our cats strongly support the Foster Parent Programme.
When we got our puppy, Zoey, she was very nervous and never wanted to be alone. Somehow the cats knew this and they took turns giving Zoey the companionship she needed.
The personality of the Siberian is more dog-like than feline. They love interaction, will develop a strong, loyal bond with their family, usually come when called and greet you at the door. They are highly intelligent and train easily. With their easy adaptability, gentle nature, intelligence, dog-like loyalty, and the fact that they are hypoallergenic to the majority of pet-sensitive people, it’s no wonder that the Siberian cat makes the best pet companion in any household – whether it’s a large growing family or a retired senior.
What more could anyone want in a cat?
A cat cannot see directly under its nose. This is why the cat cannot seem to find tidbits of food on the floor.
