Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs - just ask the cat!
I have recently become aware that some people believe dogs are smarter than cats.
It is an understandable mistake. Dogs are very good at following instructions, fetching things and looking pleased when someone tells them they’re good.
Cats, on the other hand, prefer to observe before deciding whether a request deserves their attention. This is often mistaken for laziness. It is actually a sign of excellent judgment.
So, for the sake of setting the record straight, I have prepared a list of reasons why cats are clearly the superior species.
Thank you for taking the time to read this article and to learn the truth.
Sincerely
The Cat
Cats Take Up Less Space - Cats can make themselves comfortable in a small space. Dogs often need yards or regular trips to the park, but cats are content with a window perch and some toys.
Cats Don’t Need Daily Walks – No leash, raincoat or reluctant human required.
The Litter Box Is Always Open – No waiting by the door in the middle of the night.
Cats Are Quieter – They have the good sense not to announce the arrival of the mail carrier or Amazon to the entire neighbourhood.
Cats Keep Themselves Clean – Cats groom themselves, while dogs need regular care.
Cats Understand Personal Space. They come for affection when they decide it is time.
Cats Are More Independent Than Dogs – They can entertain themselves and don’t need so much attention. You can leave a cat alone for a day with food and water. This independence makes them good pets for people with busy schedules.
Cats Are Easier to Travel With – If you need to travel, cats are easier to leave with a pet sitter.
Cats Have a Smaller Environmental Footprint – Cats generally eat less than dogs. They do not need plastic bags for waste clean-up. They don’t damage gardens or lawns.
Cats Do Not Require Endless Hours of House Breaking. No puppy-style household mishaps for cats. A four-week-old kitten knows where to deposit its “stuff”.
Cats Make a Good Choice for Pet Lovers on a Budget – Cat ownership is usually cheaper than owning a dog. Cats eat less food and need fewer toys and supplies. They also usually don’t need regular professional grooming or as many vet visits.
Cats Are a Form of Natural Pest Control – Most cats are born with a strong instinct to chase and catch small animals. Even when they are simply lounging around, their scent or presence may make some rodents think twice about moving in.
Cats Are Smoothing Companions – There’s something comforting about a cat settling beside you, especially when that soft purr gets going. Taking a quiet moment to stroke a relaxed cat can help some people unwind.
Cats Don’t Droll All Over Everything – Now that’s truly nasty!
Cats Generally Have a Longer Lifespan – Usually, 20 to 25 years vs a dog’s lifespan of 10 – 13 years. It also means less heartbreak from losing a pet too soon.
Cats Don’t Need to Learn a Long List of Commands – We can figure things out for ourselves.
As a cat, I would also like to point out that many studies suggest that people who own cats are more intelligent than dog owners. I can’t say I’m surprised. Anyone with the good sense to choose a cat has already demonstrated excellent judgment.
Sincerely
The Cat
